A video recording the exciting moment when a diver looking for Megalodon teeth, finds a massive, 6 1/4″, fossil tooth off the coast of the Carolinas.  While large, fossil Megalodon teeth are relatively common in this area, 6 1/4″ is an absolute MONSTER tooth, and finding one complete certainly is rare.   A tooth of this size would have come from an exceptionally large adult shark, probably in excess of 50 feet in length.

Yes, it’s a fossil tooth despite the fact it’s found on the bottom of these ocean.  These teeth were originally buried and fossilized.  They are part of the Hawthorn Formation which dates back to the Miocene period.  As the rock erodes these fossilized teeth are much harder than the soft rock come loose.  They are commonly collected by scuba divers in the rivers and coastal regions of the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida.
